'Mandy' Review
Cocaine-Fueled Arthouse Action-Horror
Rating: ★★★½
The pinnacle of "style over substance", 'Mandy' is at its best when it is a cocaine-fueled, vibrant, violent action-revenge-horror arthouse film but sadly, that is only the final 45 minutes. Although the movie is let down by a slow first half and a reliance on its neon-drenched, blood-soaked arthouse style over an actual compelling story, it makes up for it with one of Nicolas Cage's craziest performances in years and entertaining scenes of over-the-top, metal hyper-violence. This isn't a movie for everyone but those who want to see Cage go off his chops while high on coke won't be disappointed.
