'Skin' (2018) Review
A Laughably Bad and Tone-Deaf Racial Drama

Rating: ★

If someone were to stumble across stills from 'Skin' (2018), they may have the impression that this is a good short film from the well lit and framed shots. But if that same person were to watch the actual short, they would realise that is not the case. One of the two movies from 2018 that prove the most surface-level exploration of relevant topics such as racism is enough for an Academy Award win, 'Skin' (2018) is a terrible short film start to its hilariously awful finish. With mediocre performances, a poorly written and shallow screenplay and an ending so tone-deaf that it will have you in stitches from its self-seriousness and absurdity, it is truly baffling that this won such a prestigious award. Move over 'Green Book', 'Skin' (2018) is the most undeserving race-based movie to win an Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards.
