'Yesterday' Review
'Yesterday' Review
A Respectful Tribute to The Beatles
Rating: ★★★★
Boasting enjoyable performances from newcomer Himesh Patel and Lily James in the lead roles, 'Yesterday' tells the story of English singer-songwriter Jack Malik who, during a mysterious global power outage, gets in an accident. When he wakes up, he discovers that The Beatles never existed. By performing their songs to a world oblivious to the iconic band, Jack becomes a sensation overnight.
Outside of the artistic choices that didn't quite land, director Danny Boyle has delivered a charming and crowd-pleasing movie that serves both as a satirical look at the music industry and having a lie blow out of proportion as well as a respectful tribute to one of the best bands of all time, The Beatles.
